The Cumbria Institute of Sport has been established to provide a platform for aspiring young sports men and women in Cumbria aged 16-18. Students study towards a two year Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Development and Coaching qualification that is attached to one of our industry career-focused pathways in either coaching & teaching or sports science. Both the qualification and course pathways are 100% practical and cover a wide variety of topics across a wide range of sporting careers.
The course allows students to focus on developing industry relevant skills, knowledge and experiences to support their progression onto university, U.S Scholarships, Apprenticeships or direct employment.
Professional development hours are also built into students timetables which enables them to gain both transferable employability/ life skills and industry relevant experiences that supports them within their future career journeys.
On the pitch The Football Education Programme in partnership with Morecambe Town F.C is designed for both elite players looking to develop as far as they can up the football pyramid and those that wish to continue to play recreationally and use their passion in further education.
Students train everyday with our highly qualified UEFA coaches at the fantastic 3G facilities at Newton Rigg, developing as players physically and technically allowing them to develop their game intelligence.

Partnering with Rugby League giants Hull F.C and their Centre of Excellence Programme provides students an amazing opportunity to develop as players with fantastic pathway opportunities into the professional game for elite stand out performers.
Whilst their is the opportunity to develop future first team players at Hull FC, the Centre of Excellence also provides player pathway opportunities for students of all abilities with links to clubs within the lower tiers and community game.
With regular competitive fixtures, Students train everyday with highly qualified coaches developing as players technically, while developing key strength and conditioning programmes to for the physical demands of Rugby League.
The Cumbria Institute of Sport partnership with the Cumbria Rugby Union Centre of Excellence provides a fantastic opportunity for local talent to take their game to the next level within an elite development programme.
Learners will receive four days of coaching and guidance along their rugby journey per week developing tactically, technically and physically. Professional strength and conditioning programmes are designed for each individual too focus on key areas to maximise student performance and development.
A midweek competitive games programme provides further player education and development.
